Amp Research retractable steps 16’ Canyon

Happy with TC.com, but not so much Amp research!
I love the steps, now that I have them installed! Unfortunately, that kind of turned into a bit more of a process than it should’ve been!
I installed as per instructions, and it operated as if I had the motors on the wrong sides. The passenger doors operated the driver’s side steps and same for other.
So I tried switching motors and same issue.
I ended up buying wire, lume, connectors, etc. and making an extension for the driver’s side wires to power the passenger motor! UGH!
SHOULDN’T HAVE HAD TO DO THAT!!!
Especially since how much money they want for them.
I believe that I ran everything correctly. The fact that it plugs into the OBD2 port, the harness only allows you to run the wires a certain way so?!?!
Tonneaucovered.com obviously has nothing to do with that issue. They were great!
